Report from Sussex Police

The only thing really to mention is around the Street Briefing we held at Beach Green in response to concerns about ASB in the area.

I requested crime figures from 01/01/16 to 31/10/17 for the green prior to the Briefing. There has been a rise in reports of Burglary and Criminal Damage during October, but this can be accounted for because of the damage caused to the windows of The Perch and the damage caused to some unused beach huts.

For this time period overall there has been the following reports:

Crime:

Burglary -5 (4 or these were reported in October)

Criminal Damage - 8 (6 of these were reported in October)

Other offences 2

Other theft & handling - 1

Possession of controlled drugs (cannabis) - 1

Violence against person - 5

Non-crime:

ASB (environmental) - 1

ASB (nuisance) - 18

Other non-crime incidents - 30

There are the usual natural variations (ie. ASB tends to increase around school summer holidays), but nothing that reflects the level of issues being talked about on social media.

We use call volumes to identify hotspot crime areas, so if things aren’t being reported to us, Beach Green will drop off our Hotspot area list. This is why people need to be encouraged to report things to us.
